Life with Tourette’s syndrome (by Betty the mother of Sam)
Sam has Tourette’s syndrome, Betty used to have Tourette’s but hasn’t had any symptoms since childhood. Hopefully Sam will grow out of it too.
If however he is unlucky enough to have it for the rest of his life,that is good too because Betty and Sam do have a laugh about it. If you don’t you would cry. Tourette’s is there whether you like it or not. Some people have it to the extreme, and it can be physically debilitating and painful as we have found out. But in the moments where it’s just funny, laugh.. Sam and Betty have laughed their way through Tourette’s. there’s been some corkers. Sam only has coprolalia,(the swearing bit) for all you non Tourettees, On his Xbox.
This is because Sam can hold it in all day at school, but when he gets home and gets angry on the Xbox it all comes out.
Betty’s poor neighbours. Especially the poor black guy who’s just moved in over the road and doesn’t know Sam has Tourette’s. I’m sure he avoids us at all costs. He’s a very nice man too, so we hope he hasn’t taken offence.
Sam hates using these words but he has no control over them whether Betty tells him to stop or not.
Betty doesn’t bother any more, she does have 1 rule though and that’s the window must be shut or he has to whisper cock munching dickhead.
